L Clear
The L clear — up one sideline, then square it across at the midline; two straight legs beat one long carry.
- Passball leaves the stick

Orientation: this half is your defensive end; the ball moves toward the top of the frame. Two legs: the outlet goes to the sideline and the ball moves up that sideline (the vertical leg), then gets squared across the field at the midline to the far-side midfielder (the horizontal leg). The value is that neither pass is long and neither player has to beat a rider one-on-one — you move the ball, not the man. Against a zone ride that funnels you to a sideline, the L is the answer: you accept the sideline, then skip out of the trap before it closes. Trail defenseman behind the cage is the reverse valve if the first leg is covered.
