4v3 Fast Break (The L)
The 4v3 break — ball down the middle, three attackmen in an L, the triangle can only cover two of them.
- Carryruns with the ball
- Passball leaves the stick

The single most valuable transition rep in men's lacrosse. Ball carrier comes down the MIDDLE of the field, not the alley — that is what forces the top defender to commit. The three attackmen form a real L, and the word is literal: the point man is the top of the vertical leg about 11 yards out and stands DIRECTLY ABOVE the near pipe, and the base runs from the near pipe across the front of the cage to the far pipe. Draw it slanted and it is a triangle, which is a different look with a different rotation. The carrier passes to the point, the point passes to whichever pipe the rotation leaves, and that man shoots. Two install rules: the carrier never dodges the top man (that turns 4v3 into 3v3), and nobody moves until the ball moves. The three dashed tokens plus their keeper are the defensive triangle, and the three lines are the play: carry down the middle, pass to the point, skip to the far pipe. He shoots from there — that last step is not drawn, because from the pipe it is one step and an arrow on the cage is a smudge, not information. Count what the triangle has to do — the top man steps to the carrier, the ball-side pipe man takes the point, and the far pipe man is the only one left for the far pipe. He cannot get there. That is the whole reason a 4v3 is a goal.
