Coaching points
- Seven defenders: one pressures out to the ball, the other six each cover a zone and protect the middle of the 8. See the ball, check the 8.
- Put your strongest 1v1 defenders in the two top zones, and smart, loud leaders in the two low zones by the circle.
- Ball at a top corner: double it with the ball defender and that top zone. Ball behind: the low zone waits until she is a few steps from the goal line, and the wing zone beside her doubles if she drives.
- If she gets into the 8, the top zone on that side crashes, and the far side takes the cutters. Follow a cutter to the middle of the 8, then pass her off. From US Lacrosse's Level 3 workbook.
- In the 8 without a player within a stick's length (college: stick and arm), you have 3 seconds: step in, then step out.
