Two of us, one app, one sport.

FanFeed started as a recruiting product. The idea was the obvious one: high school athletes need to be seen by college coaches, so build the place where that happens. We built it more than once, in more than one shape, and none of them worked.

The reason turned out to be simple, and it took us far too long to say it plainly. A recruiting profile is worth nothing until somebody is looking at it. A feed is worth nothing until other people are posting in it. A marketplace is worth nothing until there are buyers in it. Every version we built needed a crowd we did not have in order to be worth anything, which meant that on day one, for the person actually holding the phone, it was worth nothing. So they left. Not because the app was broken, but because it was empty, and no amount of polish fixes empty.

A team app does not have that problem. It is useful at one team, on the first Tuesday, before a single other program in the country has signed up. The roster is full because the coach uploaded it. The schedule is real because it is his season. The chat has people in it because they are his players. Nothing waits on a network that does not exist yet.

So we rebuilt it around the week a coach actually runs. The roster, the schedule, the group chat split into rooms that make sense, the playbook, the practice plan, the stat book, the graphics. The recruiting layer is still in here, and it is far better than the thing we started with, because a college graph is genuinely useful once there is a real team attached to it. It is the ceiling the team app earns rather than the reason to open the door.

We would rather tell you that than pretend it was the plan all along.

We are lacrosse first on purpose. It is the sport we know, it is the sport our coaches are in, and a tool that understands one sport properly beats a tool that understands twelve of them vaguely. Lacrosse is why the playbook knows a man up set from a ride, why the practice planner knows a goalie's week is not an attackman's, and why the college graph knows which programs actually have spots opening.

The goal is to be the best in the world at lacrosse. Not one of the options a coach considers. The one it would be strange not to use.

Then we take it further. Almost none of what makes this work is lacrosse. A soccer coach has a Sunday night too. So does a hockey coach, a volleyball coach, a track coach. The roster, the rooms, the plan, the stat book and the posters are the shape of coaching a team, not the shape of one sport. Earn lacrosse completely first, then build the same thing for every coach who has the same week.

With coaches, in Colorado, in person. Nearly everything on the roadmap came out of a conversation with somebody who runs a real program, and the features that did not survive contact with one got cut. Free for teams while we are in pilots, because a tool nobody is using is not worth charging for.

A lot of the roster is under eighteen, which sets rules we do not get to bend. Parents get their own channel, coaches can see what their team can see, and the FAQ spells out exactly who can read what.
