Coaching points
- Read the ball, not the whistle. Stay in your box until possession or the ball crosses the restraining line, then set the L away from the carrier.
- Top man goes opposite the carrier; the other two go low and wide. Depth is your call: top man 12 to 15 yards out (Lacrosse For Dummies) up to near the restraining line (CoachTube), lows from just above GLE to about 5 yards off the crease.
- The face-off man usually comes out to his left, so the ball usually comes down the goalie's right, the reverse break: set your L on the goalie's left. His first look can be a push into the slot (LaxLibrary, coach's variation). He carries across to the goalie's top-left? Flip it.
- Until the face-off ends you can stand anywhere behind the restraining line, out in the alleys too (Ask a Ref). Cross it early and it is a flag.
