Coaching points
- When a pole faces off against you, or both their wings are already on top of you, you won't get a clean break forward. Clamp and rake it back behind you right away, in one motion, then turn and scoop it on the run (South Lacrosse).
- Move it within one step (both levels). Pinch it and flip it: legal. Pinch it and run with it: withholding (NCAA).
- Protect the ball first: no fast break this time, so settle it and clear it. If it goes back loose over your own restraining line, the face-off is over and your defensemen can play it (NCAA and NFHS).
- You have 20 seconds to get it over midfield: the NFHS count, and in college the ball must be in your offensive half when the 80-second clock hits 60.
