Coaching points
- Line your wings up at the end of the wing line nearest your own goal. Use all of it: if you lose the face-off, that's a head start of about 10 yards (LaxLibrary).
- We lose it: both wings sprint to the hole and defend from the inside out, then find your man. Call who has Ball, every time.
- Stop the ball before the box and nobody else has to rotate, so we stay matched up instead of giving up a fast break. Once the ball is stopped, FOGO, leave it to the wing and take their wing on your side.
- If you can't get to the ball first, your first sprint is back to their attackmen (C.J. Costabile). A fast carrier can still beat a wing to the box (LaxLibrary).
- Coach's note (our own inference): wings lined up deep give up the wing ground ball if your face-off man wins or ties the clamp. Use it when you expect to lose the clamp.
