Coaching points
- Against a great face-off man, put a long pole on the face. His job isn't to win it clean: take away the forward exit and make it a 50-50 ground ball. You still have to play the ball. In high school a face-off man who goes for the body instead gets flagged.
- Still four long sticks: your LSM moves to the X and a short-stick middie takes his wing.
- Wings, collapse on the ball and win the scrum. If he still clamps it, his best way out is usually back to his own side: no fast break (South Lacrosse).
- It also wears down a quicker face-off man over a game. Whoever faces off needs the tape or paint at the throat of his stick (NCAA).
