Coaching points
- Coma means "come across": on a dodge from behind, the backside corner slides across the front of the crease and meets him at the near pipe.
- Corner defenders cheat off their men when the ball is behind, or the coma arrives late. Lead with your stick; a pole reaches about six feet.
- Bill Cherry: the backside defender cheats down to cover the space the slider left. The beaten man finds one.
- Tierney and the Canadian manual slide from the crease on an X dodge instead (see Crease Slide from X). LaxLibrary warns many youth and HS teams aren't disciplined enough to send the coma.
