Coaching points
- The goalie rider stands on top of the circle, stick up, to take away the quick middle outlet and make the goalie throw it outside or to a low defender. The middle rider holds the middle 12 to 15 meters out.
- When a low defender gets it, shift while the ball is in the air. The goalie rider drops to the middle, the middle rider shifts ball side, and the ball-side middie comes up so she and the high rider can double. Never chase the double: let her come to you.
- Everyone else shifts to the ball and gets within a stick's length of the nearest threat. Cut off the adjacent passes, or the double is wasted. If the ball switches sides, shift at 45 degrees to get ahead of it.
- Everybody's job changes every time the ball is passed. Use one caller and one trigger word ("Ball's out, shift!"). From Limestone's Scott Tucker.
