Coaching points
- On the save, shift into re-defending right away: call out numbers and mark each player closely. There should always be someone on the ball once it is out, and every player finds her mark.
- Stick side or goal side is your choice. US Lacrosse marks on the stick side to deny the pass (the number one goal is to deny a pass); Achieve Lacrosse teaches goal side. The Goal side version draws Achieve's.
- Don't mark the goalie unless you are forcing the ball to a weaker player or a corner. Force to the corner and the sideline: the middle is the weakest part of any re-defend.
- Look for backside doubles, and defend all the way to the other restraining line. From the US Lacrosse Level 2 workbook and Achieve Lacrosse.
