Coaching points
- Pass, then pick away from the ball. Set it on the defender's ball-side shoulder, in her line of sight, about a meter away, feet set and stick tucked.
- The cutter jab-steps away first, then brushes off the picker's shoulder and asks for the ball away from her defender.
- After the cut goes by, the picker drop-steps and rolls toward the ball: she is the second option, and the first if they switch.
- Teach the pick stationary. The rule itself is softer: NCAA keeps the picker in her vertical plane, and the NFHS and youth rule lets a pick move if it is in her sight. From Achieve Lacrosse and US Lacrosse.
